Timber usually needs sanding and re-treating every year or two to stay sound and splinter-free.
This deck needs a wash with warm soapy water and a soft brush in spring and autumn, more often in shade. It keeps the surface grippy. Both need a sweep now and then.
Everything under and around the boards, from us. The planner above counts the parts for you.
Our battens are made for solid ground. Fascia and balustrades are for decks built higher, which need a proper frame: call us before planning one.

Underneath
The boards are the same every time. What changes is what goes under them.
A patio or concrete. Our composite battens go down 400mm apart and the boards fix onto them.
Re-decking an old deck. The boards fix straight onto your frame: no battens needed.
Needs a proper frame, which we don't supply. Fascia and balustrades finish it.

FAQ
The surface is slip-resistant. No outdoor surface is slip-proof, though: frost, ice and green algae make any deck slippery, timber or composite.
A wash in spring and autumn, and more often in shade, keeps it grippy.
Everything left outdoors weathers, and composite can lighten a little over its first months in the sun.
To see how a colour looks in your garden before you choose, order a free sample and leave it outside for a few weeks.
Dark colours get hot in strong sun, as dark timber does: colour matters more than material.
For a south-facing sun trap, choose a lighter colour such as Ash, Silver or Maple, and put a rug or some shade where people sit barefoot.
Timber costs less to buy. Timber usually needs sanding and re-treating every year or two; this deck needs no sanding, staining or painting, and comes with a 25 year warranty.
The planner above prices your whole deck, battens and trims included.
Yes, at ground level on solid ground such as a patio or concrete: our battens sit on the base and the boards fix down onto them with the fixings pack. Re-decking an existing base or frame needs no battens.
A raised deck needs a proper structural frame, which we don't supply. Call 0161 509 8637 before planning one.
Colour can vary slightly from one production batch to the next, as with any composite.
Order everything for the deck together, trims and step edges included, so it all comes in one delivery. Free samples show the real colour and grain first.
Use the planner above. It counts your boards row by row, so offcuts too short to use are never counted on, and adds 10% for cuts.
In England, usually not, if the deck is no more than 30cm above the ground and, together with any extensions and sheds, covers no more than half the garden. It also can't sit in front of the house.
Flats, listed buildings and protected areas have their own rules, and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland differ. Check with your council.
Where someone could fall more than 600mm, building regulations in England call for guarding 1100mm high.
Our balustrade kit covers 1.5m, and the planner works out how many you need. For a raised deck, call 0161 509 8637 and we'll help you plan the parts.
